Can anyone identify this bug? It is about an inch and quarter long.

It looks like a grub worm of some sort. Common in a lot of lawns and beds. Ours here are mostly Japanese Beetle grubs.
I garden for the pollinators.

Larva of some kind of bug; June bug, Japanese beetle, or other type. Take one to your local county extension office if you need an exact identification.

Whenever I find one of these I toss is over the fence into the more wooded area or drop it into the bird bath so the birds can eat it.

Nope. You really don't want grubs. When I dig one up, I too put it where the birds can get to it. Birds love them.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.

Also, Toni, we have a forum just for asking about pests and diseases. Maybe if you post your photos over there, someone might be able to give you a more specific ID. Worth a try! Smiling
