I bought a bay tree probably 4 or 5 years ago and he seems to be doing pretty well in it's pot. I'd really like to start a few more to give to family. Has anyone done it before?

I live in the Texas Coastal Bend area, Corpus Christi, they grow bay leaves tree. I am moving back to central Texas,( Austin.)

I would like to take a cutting of this tree, they can grow wild here. But when I need bay leaves to cook ,I just go outside n get fresh bay leaves to cut from or dried a branch for later. Now this tree has berries(green seed?) What do I do with the seeds.dry them n plant, put them in water? I have a branch in water now, nothing so far. HELP!!

I live in North Central Texas and have had a Bay Laurel for 35 years, mine must be male because it never had berries.
I have propagated it a few times to give to friends. I use new tip growth about 6 inches long and put it in nice loose soil.
Keep the cuttings in the shade and moist at all times, it is slow to root, sorry I didn't time mine, but I would say about 6 weeks.
I hope that helps. Smiling

I would also consider air layering. It always seems to work for me.
