I was thinking of ATP, and an article about the cutest little flowers I knew: the purple and blue ajuga, the sweet wild violets, and the bright dandelions that filled my lawn with bright jewels of color this spring while I wait (still!) for the first bloom on a winter-sowed pansy or forget-me-not. The weeds are so pretty here right now. Of course they're growing where I'm about to put in a series of new garden beds...

Wouldn't it be nice if our modern plants had the strong survival rate that our 'weeds' have? Most of them have a purpose, or had one. We can't say that about our new varieties, but they do stand around and look beautiful, don't they? I truly do appreciate those 'weeds' in very early spring.
