How does one propagate a bleeding heart? By seed? By division? I've never tried it and would like to.

Thanks!

Thanks, Cat. I think I'm going to try both methods, which I researched after this post, although I have to confess that I've
never seen a bleeding heart seed!

Angie, I'm not sure about the newer varieties, but my "old fashioned bleeding hearts" self-seed like crazy; little pods form everywhere the flowers are. I started out with just a pink-flowered plant, now have lots of both pink- and white-flowered plants! Smiling

Oh, Sandy! Would you be willing to share some seeds? I'll pay postage. Obviously I have a hybrid because I don't have any
seedlings. Thank you so much. If you don't care to save/send seed, I'll try to find an old-fashioned variety.

Angie -- I'd be happy to send you some seeds! It's going to be a while -- I'm in the far north here in the Michigan Upper Peninsula, and spring is taking even longer than normal to get here (I think there is still frost way down in the ground in some places, no joke). Just to be sure -- we are both talking about the same plant -- Dicentra -- right? I wouldn't even think to ask you that, except my sister-in-law in Florida has something else entirely that she calls "bleeding heart." I would post a picture of mine here, but for some reason the site is not cooperating for me to do that! At any rate, just tree mail me your mailing address and I'll get some seeds to you as soon as I have them -- no need to pay the postage, they're small seeds that will only take a stamp -- you can just "pay it forward" sometime when the opportunity presents itself Smiling

There are many Bleeding hearts within Dicentra that are on the market. Some produce seed, some don't. Perhaps one of you can pick the photo from the data base of the wanted(Hemophobic) or the have(Weedwacher).

Tried IE instead of Chrome and now I CAN add a photo!

These are the old-fashioned bleeding hearts that I have:

Sandy: That's exactly what mine look like, too. Yes; I'd love to have some seeds. How kind of you to offer!
