Good morning fellow succulent lovers!

I need help from those of you that are more experienced. I've had this succulent for a little over a year, and I think it needs to be re-potted.

Thumb of 2014-05-16/MamaIve12/2d91e5

The first pic shows how it looks from the top, the second from the side. It even has a little one shooting off. Can I just cut the stem and replant? What about that offshoot? How do I separate it from the mother plant?

Thanks in advance! Smiling

Its fine! succulents grown dry will lose old lower leaves to provide for new growth. If you want you can repot it, it is probly rootbound, so it might help but only go up by a third to a half or it will be easyer to overwater. what i would do instead is sink it in the ground halfway or in a bed of sand, that will help it stay cool and get all the water it wants

as to the pup, wait untill there is a inch or so of stem, cut with clean sharp knife, dry out in shade for up to 3 weeks anything over a day will do for small cuttings.

you can just chop it and it will ( likely ) grow new smaller plants out of base. let cutting dry before repoting

i hope that was of some use, have a great day I tip my hat to you.

Just a guess: Kalanchoe thyrsiflora 'Flapjack' (???) Somebody can verify or please ID correctly?

I agree with Mark; If you think mother plant is too big for being the top "tenant" on that "apartment complex" of a planter, you can clip the big stem and callous it for a few days and then try to root it. The remaining part of the rooted stem will hopefully send out one or two new heads. I would also wait for the existing offset to get bigger and longer stem before separating from the main stem. So there's actually 3 ways to propagate this "tenant". Smiling

Kalanchoe thyrsifolia... easy to start from cuttings. leave 2 inches of the stem on the large growth... let the cut heal it for 1-2 days and put it in a 3 inch pot of well drained soil mix. The remaining plant may sprout more, not likely but worth thing while waiting for the small shoot to grow big enough to cut.

I have 2 of the same plants with tiny pups. I think they are cute together so I'm planning to leave them for now so the pups can grow big too. I like the idea of repotting these though, since these are surely root bound.

Here is the name in the database Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe tetraphylla)
