I wanted nasturtiums in my veggie bed, so I planted them with vining cherry tomatoes. I hope the tomatoes, along with the wooden trellis, will provide the nasturtiums enough shade to survive the summer heat. I was worried my plan failed at the start because the tomatoes were a no-show. However, I discovered that I am more blind than I thought I was, because I noticed several tomato plants of a good size mixed into my nasturtiums, which are also growing quickly now.

I have two kinds of nasturtiums and want to plant the other kind in my herb bed. But I'm drawing a complete blank trying to come up with a vine to grow with my nasturtiums in my herb bed. Yes, they must be herbs to continue with my theme. And they must like full sun. I suppose the nasturtiums will provide some shade, but I do not have a wooden trellis, just a fence in the herb bed. I would prefer a perennial because the nasturtiums are annuals.

How about a climbing rose? Rose hips, you know. Or an edible passiflora? Hops is also a climber.

@woofie Thanks! I think the climbing roses are a great idea. And I have already been wanting to grow some passifloras in the memorial mini-garden I'm planning for Treasure. With some pink salvias, that should be pretty. I'd like to grow some as houseplants also.

Now I need to decide what color climbing roses to look for. The climbing roses sold out fast last year around here, so I better make up my mind quickly. And make a note to buy more garlic to plant with the roses. Garlic kept my roses so healthy when I grew them in Denver. Although I never grew climbing roses. To be honest, I didn't even realize that you could get rose hips from climbing roses. But I'm most definitely not a rose expert. I grew a bunch of stuff, experimented with a lot, but didn't master anything but my online shopping addiction. I'll look to see what I can find locally first so I'm not planting roses when it gets miserably hot.

Heh, I don't know if you can get rose hips from climbers either! Never even occurred to me that you might not. Hmmm. Google time.

Too bad none of the rose hip climbers have pink roses. That's my favorite color. I'm not a fan of orange, but I can always get yellow or white to work in my garden. And I happen to have planted White Swan Echinacea near where I want to have the climbing roses. And I also will have black eye susans there as well. And the feverfew and chamomile I already planted will be a few feet away also. So yellow or white will fit in nicely.
