This is a nice relaxing medicinal plant that works well as a tea. It contains chemicals that activate benzodiazepam receptors (like Valium) and also contains other chemicals that help to strengthen the brain and regrow neurons.

It propagates by sending out runners. It will also root in water.

I would like to trade for other rare medicinal plants. Especially other scutellarias would be great, or bacopa monierri. I am also wanting a wasabi plant if anyone has one. I am particularly interested in plants with beautiful scents, edible wonders, medicinal, spiritual, or tasty nuts and fruits. Basically, I would consider most anything that you would be kind enough to offer.

Hi and Thanks! I am familiar with it. I have dried hibiscus that I use in smoothies. VERY TASTY! It is a great plant, but as far as I know, it would not survive the winters here in Portland. We are 8a-b here. Maybe I am wrong, though. Does yours winter outside there?

I treat it as an annual and haven't really tried to see if it was hardy. I love the tea made from the dried calyx - in fact I'm drinking some now!

I have not gotten my Chinese Medicinals going yet. I have immature Goji and Ma Huang, so give me a couple of years. I do have a lot of the common stuff. Edibles/Medicinals in my yard are Sweet Violet, Purslane, Chocolate Mint, Lemon Mint, Curly Spearmint, Burdock, Oregano, Red Raspberry, some sort of Oregano/Marjoram, Thuja, Mallow, Mustard, Gout Weed, Vinca, Strawberries, Walking Onions and Chives. All make it through very cold winters.

There are Hibiscus that are perennial in the North. Read descriptions until you find one for your zone.
