I know next to nothing about peonies, so I couldn't help @SunnyBorders identify this one. I do know, however, that there are hundreds of peony cultivars, but is the unique shape of the one in this photo an identifying factor?

It was supposed to be Festiva Maxima, but it apparently isn't.

Couple more pictures of the same plant on the same day (June 12, 2014).

The taller flower looks like a "bomb" type double while the shorter flower looks like an "anemone of Japanese" type bloom.

Is this two different peonies combined? One is considerably taller as well.

At any rate, the Anemone type kind of looks like 'Primevere'.

The anemone type flower certainly looks like the 'Primevere' (e.g. our Plant Database, Heart2Heart's image).

Suggestion re two different plants: explains it.
I certainly purchased and planted this peony (these peonies) as one plant, which was also mislabelled.

There are currently three (living) stems in total.
These are:
- approx. 29 inches long + 2 1/2 inches for the flower in the above case.
- approx 38 inches long + 4 inches for the flower in the "bomb" case.
- approx 34 inches long (no flower) in the third case.

There is/are 1or 2 small brown (dead?) buds on the two taller stems.

There is no obvious difference between the leaves on any of the stems, including the maximum leaf size.

I think also that the "plant" may be 2 different plants! The taller stem flower on the right looks like 'Charlie's White' .

I have a group of self-seeded peonies growing in a space of about 8'x4' that are now mature blooming plants. This spring when they
first came up I tried to put a marker in front of each group of stems that I thought would be a plant. I put in 9 markers. Now that they have bloomed,
different shades of pink, rose, and white; also doubles and singles, I believe I have at least 15 plants! So this fall I plan to dig up all the roots, see how they are growing beneath the ground, divide them, and line them out in a new bed. Should be a fun task!

Interesting challenge.

In my case, I actually purchased that as a named peony cultivar and it turned out that not only is it two plants,
but the label matches neither of them.

Can I ask where you purchased your mislabeled plants? Are they from Van Engelen?

Kousa, all I know is that it came from the local Canadian Tire store garden centre.
Got most of my peonies there.

I don't buy perennials if they don't have a plant label and also try to buy them in flower.
Labels can lie, plants can't!

lol. I got a peony from Canadian Tire. It was supposed to be Wladyslawa, but it wasn't. However, I absolutely love the no-id plant, so I'm not unhappy about the switch, but now I have to go about uncovering its name. Are you disappointed? That Charles White is a handsome one.

As both you and Mary say, that peony has a very attractive flower.
And in choosing named perennials, I'd go for a spectacular flower every time.

I also received a mislabeled peony that looks alot like yours. Does your peony start out with a light yellow center and whiten as it matures? Mine blooms about late midseason. It also has a nice pleasant scent. Here are two blooms from the same mislabeled plant.

Interesting that your plant appears to show the kind of flower variation that my one (or two) did.

I did read that the flowers on a "bomb type" peony cultivars can be quite variable, with only some flowers going on to become (fully) globular.

Re date of bloom: it's an early peony.
Perhaps I missed seeing any noticeable light yellowish centre by the picture the next day.
I didn't notice fragrance. Will check next year.
