Hi! I need some advice and I hope someone here can help me .....

I was repotting my Silver Moon clematis vine and the vine accidentally broke off at the crown. I am sick about it! It's a pruning category 2. Do you think it will grow back or did I kill this beautiful vine? It is 3 years old and has a good root system. It also had lots of branches coming off that main vine trunk. It had just finished blooming, so it was very healthy and looking great! I can't believe the main trunk broke off at the root base like that. Ugh! (sigh) Crying

It will grow back. Give it a drink of lukewarm water with Epsom Salt dissolved in it - 1 tablespoon of ES to a gallon of lukewarm water. You should see new growth in a few weeks at most.

new to the forum so I didn't see your post until just now... it'll be fine. as a matter of fact, that broken vine may be just what the doctor ordered. new shoots will spring up with more vigor and what not. work in two cups of alfalfa meal into the surrounding soil every 6 weeks. you'll see flowers like you've never seen. assuming its an established plant that is...

Welcome to ATP, Riverman123! My thread is a year old and the clematis did indeed produce more vines and lots of blooms!
