I forgot to add too, for those of you who are Anne McCaffrey's Pern fans, I would not be surprised if she used these critters for her description of Thread as they look almost exactly as she described.

Someone posted a Youtube of the rat-tailed maggots swimming. At one point the camera person holds a maggot in their cupped hand and after a short time the maggot starts eating the dead skin cells of the hand similar to the pedicure fish.
