I have brought this plant many times. I finally was able to keep it alive through the winter which was when it would die every time I brought one.

I had one for over a year and it just up and died , have one little peace left.

I have read that the variegated jade (or more specifically, the 'tricolor') seems to be a bit more fussy for some reason.

I love that Crassula! I always love variegated leaves like that, adds a nice flair to the plant.

Tarev, how long have you had yours. I noticed this winter I could not let it go dry like I do my other jades. I kept it moist all winter.

I have lost it 3 times. It always died through the winter. I will see how it does this winter. I will keep it moist again this winter.

I think I got them in 2010 from my aunt.

I probably do not notice if it likes being moist in winter since I have it outdoors and we get the rain at the same time. But pretty much my typical rule with my succulents I try not to water them in winter if possible. But hard to avoid when it rains here. My understanding was they are supposed to be dormant in winter, but here they just get chilled and occasionally rained upon, so they get that reddish color hues. So next option is to keep their media really fast draining and plant them shallow, so if it does rain the water drains out fast.

Cold and dry okay, but cold and wet will be bad..so be careful when you keep them moist during winter.

Thank you Trav. I am brutal to my succulents in the winter they are lucky if they get a drink of water twice from Dec-March. This winter I had this one in my bathroom. I would splash some water on it about once a month. When I had this plant other times I kept it in my Sun room with the other succulents and it did not get much to drink. By Spring this plant would always be dried up and no leaves left.

As you can see the pot I have it in does not have drainage. Something I do often if I like a pot I use it even if it does not have drainage but I have been doing it so long I know how to adapt the watering. When I put them outside and we have constant rain as we are having now. I lay all the pots without drainage on their side.

Hmm..I never use containers with no drainage for any of my succulents. Just not worth losing a really nice plant, if it can be avoided by a few holes. Too hard to gauge how wet the media is below especially during winter. To each his own way of gardening...whatever works

But that is my problem is I am not a water-er. I lose plants because I do not water. I hate to water. I lose plants over the winter because I do not water. Sometime about Feb after all the holidays and I finally settle down I look at the plants and the ones that were not really tough are dried up and dead.

If you use well drained soil and do not water for 3 months even cool some succulents will die. I discovered that fact. If there is no drainage and they are given a little moisture and you do not water for months they survive.

I have worked out the ones that want moisture in the winter and the ones that survive dry. The ones that want moisture I plant those in pots with no holes. I have succulents I have to break the pot to get them out they grow so good with no holes. I do not suggest anyone that waters regularly not try my madness.

It is the dormancy time..some are dormant in cold season, some in warm season, then factor in cold and heat tolerance.

I used to take those things for granted, but I have now learned to adjust my watering and always use containers with drainage whichever type it is.

I am still learning too..still killing some and usually wrong timing in watering

I know trev. The only saving for me is I have been able to find a lot of them for 1.00 at Lowes on their dead table because they almost kill them quicker than I can kill them.

I seem to do good in the summer. It is the winter when I do not water and they dry up and die.
