I notice that when I go to the plant database, there are some plant families listed under "Visit our custom databases:" followed by "The rest, alphabetically:". Could a link to gingers be added? (There isn't a hedychium option, either)

We don't have a custom database setup for gingers but I'm glad to have one added. @eclayne is our resident expert on creating custom databases if my memory serves me. Green Grin!

Thank you so much. I went to the database and was wondering f I could ask for one more favor? Big Grin Is there any possibility of adding the links to the "The rest, alphabetically:" list or aren't there enough types to warrant their own "The rest" listing?

I went to the ginger flowers listing today and was wondering if you could add the genus alpinia to the group? Thank you Big Grin

Here is Alpinia:

I apologize for being vague. When I select "ginger flowers" from the list of custom databases and then search for alpinia, there are no returns. Currently, it appears that only Hedychiums are listed in the "ginger flowers" custom db - no costus or alpinia to be found. Is it possible to add these?

What do we consider "Gingers"?

All of family Zingiberaceae? There's quite a few genera and Heliconia is in a different family (Heliconiaceae). Here are a few links to further the discussion. I don't grow many "Gingers" (gifts/trades within our community).

I would think costus as it is known as spiral ginger and alpinia (shell ginger). Heliconia, I thought, is more commonly thought as lobster claws or false bird of paradise. In my recent shopping, I keep seeing alpinia/costus/hedychium and zingiber being listed as the generic "ginger" group and they are frequently listed in a category labeled as "Ginger/Heliconia" or "Gingers and Heliconia" when heliconia are available for purchase, also.

My mistake for mentioning Heliconia. I'd like to take some time to review the tropical gingers.
