I have a purple clematis plant that is about 10 years old and very summer there is always one white flower on it. I have checked it and it is on the same plant was the purple flowers. Anybody know why I the one white flower?

Hybrid flowers of all types are crossed with other varieties to obtain particular colors. It is possible and highly likely in my opinion that your clematis's heritage has a white variety in the lineage and its just showing its ancestry. Another possibility is the soil conditions. Although I have never heard of a clematis doing this but some plants flowers are sensitive to pH of the soil like hydrangeas. Pink or blue hydrangeas will flip colors depending on the soil pH. Acidic soils make blue Hydrangeas turn pink and alkaline soils make pink hydrangeas turn blue. My bet though is its an ancestry issue. May I ask what variety of clematis you have?

We planted one last spring, we was so proud as it has been growing and looking great, getting so tall we made a nice trellis
for it, we noticed today something has been eating the bottom and destroyed all but one of the stems.....a rabbit?, we
have been seeing one in the yard lately. Now we likely have to wait till next spring to see if it pulls out of it and gets a
good start again. I don`t know any answer to the posted question, but just wanted to tell about the fate of mine, sorry

If you have any spare deer mesh, hardware cloth (which is metal), bird mesh, garden wire fencing, put it around the bottom 3' of the clem. Rabbits love new growth while deer do as well but will eat the leaves (not the stems). Use Sluggo or some slug/earwig product to protect it.

If you're sure it's a rabbit you can sprinkle quite a bit of Blood Meal around it. That won't hurt the clem but the rabbits, who hunt by scent, won't care for it.

you bet, we have mesh netting all around it now.

The first time I saw a rabbit stretch upwards I was so surprised at how large they really are and how far they can reach.
