A friend of mine asked me to post these photos here for her, as it's difficult for her to post images from her computer. @sunday

I hope someone can help her, as these things sound awful! Crying

sunday said:I am having a huge problem with these weevils. They decimate the magnolia leaves and now this year are on the daylily blooms. I am seriously thinking this may be how a 15 ft seedling magnolia died. or at least the larvae. The only close thing I could find was the black vine weevil, but every description says they only come out at dark. These things are on all day. When I get too close, they drop off and it sounds like it's raining.

Hi,
I am the one with the weevil infestation. Thanks for posting the pictures, Juli. The weevils are probably less than a quarter of an inch.
thanks for any help on identification. ...and any ideas on a natural way to get things back in balance.

This is known as Yellow Poplar Weevil, among more printable names. Here is a good reference -

Thanks Dick ! In reading about them, since they lay their eggs in the midrib of the leaf, maybe removing and burning all fallen leaves may be a help in slowing them down. There are so many right now that they are eating daylily blooms. As I walk by the magnolias and in the daylilies, I end up with them on me and in my hair. Yikes !
