thought she was unusual. Is she "Nessie", a camel or dinosaur?

Came across this post while googling around and I had to join to post a similar image I took the other day (hopefully that's OK and I'm not hijacking or something!?). It made me think of a dragonplant...

Thumb of 2014-07-10/ofm/05df06

I'm new to the whole gardening thing, so I'm not exactly sure what this is - I purchased 3 of them from a local nursery and threw away the tags before I realized the usefulness in writing down what kind of plant something is. Based on some googling, I think it's some kind of jovibarba roller.

Hi ofm, and a big Welcome! to ATP. So glad you found your way here. It is such a great place to be for making gardening friends and learning about the plants we love.

Your search came up correct, it is a Jovibarba, one of the roller types. Nice plant. And no you aren't hijacking this thread. Smiling
Looks like your dragon has a forked tail. Whistling
Very nice photo. Thumbs up

Thanks for the welcome! Smiling

Here's the other two (sorry, the pictures are not as good - and the uploader seems to like rotating them upside down), they've been in the ground about a month and a half:

Thumb of 2014-07-10/ofm/a605e8 Thumb of 2014-07-10/ofm/77f1ee

If I'd realized how rare they were (I have yet to see another one anywhere in town, and I've done some trekking...) I would have put more thought into how I was using them, instead I just stuck them in the middle of my experimental sedum patch. Thankfully it seems like they reproduce fairly quickly (?).

Portland, OR (just added that and my zone to profile, haven't had time to figure everything here out yet Sticking tongue out )- browsing around here it looks like there is a good sized contingent of Pac NW folks?

I'm very happy with the look of them so far. It seems weird to me that two of the bunch would bloom and the other wouldn't, but I don't yet know much at all about their behavior, so maybe that's typical. Maybe relevant, maybe not: the one that isn't yet blooming made chicks earlier and at a higher volume.

Ofm, you need to come to next years hybridizing clinic. It is free and newbies are very welcome. You would have a great time, and would get to meet a bunch of great semp/plant lovers. Big Grin

I saw the thread about that! I have the video flagged to watch when I get time. Next year might be a good time, hopefully I'll have a handle on the basics by then Smiling .

Hah! It started out a simple yard cleanup..then I found sedums and couple other things and downhill from there. My wife has gotten a little wary of me scoping out nurseries.

Thanks Smiling . So far my luck has been pretty good. Out of 30+ plants, everything seems to be doing well except for my sedum makinoi 'ogon' - I think I've lost all 3 of those (to be fair, someone stepped on one...). I transplanted the 2 semi-survivors last night, but I suspect they won't make it. Sedums and semperviums seem like a good match for the climate here.
