The PVC "keeper" has come unglued from my birdbath. Google was of little assistance in gluing PVC to ceramic surfaces and I figure this can't be a terribly uncommon occurrence?

I'm leaning towards Liquid Nails but figured I'd go ahead and pose the question in case anyone else has done this fix in the past. I prefer "once and done" to experimenting with projects of this nature!

The basin is some sort form of pottery while the "keeper" is PVC with a steel pin to hold the basin to the base.

Can we see a photo of the 'business end' of the pipe, please?
Can you be more specific about the material that was used to make the birdbath; you say ceramic and then pottery; is the bottom unglazed?
One more question please. Can you measure the length of the flange (if that is the correct word) that the pvc pipe attaches to? Is the flange part of the molded birdbath and made of the same material as the birdbath?

I'll another picture or two. Not sure of the material but it's not concrete and isn't glazed where the adhesive was used. I've peeled some of the old adhesive off and it's a pliable, rubbery material.

Structural silicone sealant creates a very strong, waterproof bond. Both Pecora 895 and Dow 995 are commonly specified products. There are others as well of course.

I'd go for epoxy putty - this stuff will bond to plastic and metal:

Here's a moment of stupid on my part

The manufacturer is Burley Clay Products in Roseville, Ohio. Clearly marked on the bird bath basin, LOL!

Doh! I've got their website up so I'll make an inquiry. I'll update with their advise.

If you use the epoxy putty, absolutely wear gloves when you're mixing it up. The first time I used it I didn't and was trying to get the darn stuff out from under my fingernails for a week.

Finally...a reply! Someone must have been on vacation? LOL.

"The best glue that we have found is an epoxy glue. We have had several calls about this and recommended this product. It is a 2 part glue that is mixed together. Let me know if this does not work."


I thought about calling but went ahead and hit it with some Gorilla Glue since it was closest at hand. Not sure how it will hold up as the PVC cut doesn't make 100% contact with the pottery but good enough for now.

My approach would be to buy a pint of sanded premade tile grout at hardware store, and wire brush surface area then wipe with damp cloth , when dry apply grout in round area and set pvc holder in grout , let set for a day . There may be things I cannot see in photo but this would be my approach.

Sounds like a good idea and Welcome to ATP! I don't have much faith in the quick fix but I've been so busy lately it's been of little concern.
