I have been growing this Hosta 'Key Lime Pie' for five years in this spot. This year the foliage has really changed and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a different leaf at maturity. The first picture is how it use to look.

This is how it looks this year. It is almost 5' across and the foliage is so different! Shrug!

I love it but it is so different now. Any thoughts?

I've only had mine for a few years but it still looks the same pretty much as when I bought it, only bigger. I don't have any old pictures of it, but here's one taken a few days ago.

Comparing yours to mine, I wonder if you even have Key Lime Pie. It looks different.

Doesn't look diseased to me either. Like what Paul said, it may be because of maturity. But some hostas, take 'Jewel of the Nile', for instance, are more unstable than others and their colors can change drastically from one year to the next, usually an eye or two at a time. But whatever the reason for your color change, it doesn't look diseased. The second picture kind of looks like the hosta may be getting a little more sun than it may like, the color on some of the leaves look a bit faded, but I don't know what kind of light it's in if that may be the case. I have 'Elegans' that gets a bit more sun than it ought to get, but the hosta does well there, it just looks a little ratty and faded by mid-summer.

I have several clumps of Great Expectations in different areas of my garden where conditions differ a little. Some look noticeably different from others.

Yes, I checked my calendar and it has been getting more sun this year. (Earlier and hotter than last year) It may be that it has too much sun. I'll have to watch it and see how it changes next year. There is a bush that should soon be tall enough to give it more shade. Thanks for all your thoughts.

My first thought was also that you have a different hosta than Key Lime Pie. It's definitely missing the piecrust edge.

I do love how yours has changed this year! The color shading is very pretty.

Is the foliage different through the entire plant or just a section or two? If it's just a section or two you may have a sport.
