I bought this daylily a couple of years ago from G.h. Wild for $5. I was expecting for that much money I would have a really nice plant in a couple of years. Should I ask for a refund?

Two comments: My first DL's were from Wilds, quite a few years ago, and nearly all of them have grown into humungous clumps. What more can you want for $3 right?

I have trouble knowing which dark purple is which. I have Bela Lugosi, Strutter's Ball, and Ed Murray and I don't know which is which.

I think after a couple of years, I'd just eat it.

Wild only guarantees their plants for a year, I think.
Think of it as $5.00 spent on a bad date.

Or are you kidding?
If you are serious about trying to save it, a little CPR might help.

Please tell us you're kidding... I can't see anything wrong with the picture you posted. It looks like a nice, thriving clump to me.

I paid $150 for a collection from a hybridizer in 2011. I lost everyone of them within a few months. I did not think to ask for a refund. The plants were good when I got them. They bloomed so they were what I ordered. I barely survived that summer of 63 days over 100 degrees and I got to spend some of the time in the AC. I figure I could not blame the plants for kicking the bucket.

You are kidding, right???? It really hurts when you pay $175 for a new plant- that is ONE plant- and you get a tiny single fan that is barely hanging on. If it does survive, I'll probably have to wait 2 more years to see it bloom.

Once burned- this hybridizer has a fairly good reputation but I will never be a customer again. I think greed got in the way. He should have told me the plant was too small and sent me a refund, IMHO. I haven't said anything but may do so, as I keep running into him at Daylily events.

The plant looks absolutely fine to me.

Well, I would definitely ask for a refund Frank. That clump can't be over three feet wide and I doubt you have had more than eight to ten blooms opened at one time all season, and besides there are probably less than a couple of dozen buds left to open, why waste time on such poor performing cheap daylilies?

Ya know, Seedfork... I thought that same thing, but was hesitant to say anything. I mean, Frank's already feelng bad - why pile it on?

Another problem: The ATP database lists Bela Lugosi as a 6" flower. Clearly, this flower is over 6 inches! On a positive note, the color seems ok.



Also, there seems to be too many flowers. They are all crowded together!

I'd send it back, Frank -- you were obviously gypped. I mean, what reputable seller would dare to send a plant that will over-perform? That just ain't right!

I think they may have you backed into a corner on this one! Clearly, the bloom could be exactly six inches.

See? Every daylily has *something* to like about it! Yours has perfectly correctly sized blooms. That sure doesn't happen too often in most gardens!

Oh that is so top branched it isn't funny! Blooms on top of blooms, very crowded indeedy

And I don't think that color is quite right. It looks off somehow. Are you sure you got BL?

I just think you should get rid of such a horrible plant. Just send it to me. I'll try to rehabilitate it. Any one else with similar problem plants can just send them to me, too.
