Let's see your plants that get more pretty when they get more sun in the summer!

I also have those two plants, but in my area, it prefers to be in shade, I guess since it is too hot and dry here, and our very low humidity.

My Adenium is happiest being outdoors Big Grin More leaves and blooming happily..takes all the sun it can get!

A bloom is definitely sun-kissed color - LOVE it!

I've never been to CA, so definitely will take your word for that. We've only hit 100 a couple times this summer, so far anyway, and it's always humid. Dark pots get hot though, been trying to move plants in the sun to white ones when possible.

If the colors are there, there's enough sun, which can definitely vary by location, and especially time of day. And chuh, I burned some leaves this spring. We moved while plants were going outside for spring. Some of them got left in places I didn't intend, and/or didn't realize were so sunny. All recovered now though, no harm done except temporarily.

The Hoya gets some sun from about 3 PM until late evening, but the Kalanchoe is in it from mid-morning for the rest of the day. My fav thing this summer is the transformation of the little variegated burgundy rubber tree in the multi plant pic though. I'll take another one soon, drippy from rain earlier out there now.

Lovely variegated rubber tree leaves! I remember seeing full sized rubber trees in Manila...really goes humungous! We usually plant it alone in its own container, since the roots really grow big and fast..oftentimes escapes the container and before you know it, finds its way to the drain..ah..then it goes bad...uh-oh..easily destroys the drain system. Or if planted inground, away from the house foundation.

I am still learning with my Hoyas..trying to see what it really likes.

I have these two Jades..Crassula argentea and Crassula ovata 'Gollum' they really look good during this low humidity bright summer days. Oh and that other noid succulent too, growing in the same container..just enjoys the sun!

Those are fantastic specimens! TY for sharing them. The small plant is kind of blue-ish, love that!

I don't know if plants even appreciate going from one extreme to another, might prefer a more stable environment. I didn't start this discussion to advocate people burn their plants and watch them recover, or even try to acclimate, unless their own inner voice requests it. Just enjoying some stuff happening on my plants, (some of it in the shade - which is so much brighter than the spots they have to endure in the house for winter.) Sadly though, 'tis the only way for someone in the wrong climate to be able to see what some of these plants can do, if only in a yo-yo way. "Summer colors" might have been a better phrase. Hindsight is 20/20! :+)

This plant is like watching a sunset, so glad I got it! I don't think there's any danger of this Ficus damaging anything outside here, but TYVM for the warning, and many who might read this do live where it would be hardy.

Looks like something thinks the sun-kissed parts of this plant are more tasty. Why do the munchers always choose plants that are small, and not as abundant?
Thumb of 2014-07-22/purpleinopp/e64860

Light issues aside, this pot (all of my hanging pots) is just happy to get some decent water. I was so lazy about watering them this winter.
Thumb of 2014-07-22/purpleinopp/7d2c80

This gets some sideways sun under the trees very early AM and for a few minutes around sunset, but wow, the color of the new leaves!

Crassula arborescens red leaf edging gets more vivid and the tiny dots more pronounced on its leaves as it gets its sun share:

Euphorbia tithymaloides gets lots of red tinges too on its leaves:

Aeonium arboreum, though it is right now semi-dormant, it maintains its cluster of leaves with that maroon color, rosette is much tighter in growth..but leaves still colorful:

Hi there purple. I think of you everytime a buy a purple plant. You and I have a love of color, Rolling on the floor laughing
The difference of Belize is suppose to be that the old leaves stay red. I think Ruby only the new leaves are ruby colored.

Well here we are again, another summer is growing old...

Begonia 'Sinbad' cutting. The mama plant had a pink hue when I got it a few months ago, but nothing like this cutting in quite a bit of sun:
Thumb of 2015-07-31/purpleinopp/e61f32

Rubber tree (Ficus elastica.) About a month ago, I snipped the newest leaf & the tip bifurcated & is growing these gorgeous new leaves.

A whole pot of shade lovers, unpotted & PIG for temporary summer vacation, showing their colors in the "high shade" outside under a tree, some direct AM sun.

Some sun'sters

Gorgeous new leaves & blooms on Begonia 'Castaway,' and a cute little jumping spider, guarding them from pesties.
