A friend posted this pic with the message, "Help please somebody who knows plants; what in blazes is this frightening apparition growing by the day?? It is over six feet tall...ugh!" Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Thank you.

Did your friend sow any Inula seeds such as Inula helenium?

The full shot of Inula helenium certainly looks to match!

My friend is not much of a gardener; so she didn't sow any seeds, but maybe birds did. I think we've established that it's some type of Inula. Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, I don't think it will live to flower. Her son was in town today and was planning to get rid of it.
