OK I KNOW I just used the word "private" on the internet. But humor me lol

I think there's a way to do this but I am not seeing it. ?

It is done on a category-by-category basis. You mark a category as private, and then any plant you add to that category will never be shown to anyone else.

how do I mark a category private? I looked at my list and I only wanted to make the dayliles private so I had it only display them, but I still don't see anywhere to make it private?

When you're in your lists look on the left side for the "Manage categories" list. Edit the category you want to make private.

I don't see anything that says "manage categories". There is a blue box on the left that says in this order

Plant Database
Ideas and Articles
The Green Pages
Forums
Podcasts
Plant Lists
Blogs
Goodies
Frillylily's Categories
Add Categories
View All

That's it?

ok if I click on Add Category it gives me the option to make it private. But I don't know what it means by add category? I want to make a list private that I already have, not add another one?

When you see your list of categories, click on the edit button over on the right. That will give you the option of changing the privacy setting.

Edited to add: Were you able to find the "manage categories" button?

If you open your list, you should see in the blue bar on the left a list of your categories and a button that says "Manage Categories." If you click on that it will show a list of your categories.
Here's a screen shot of mine:

ok how did you get that?
Mine just says
Frillylily's categories
and then underneath that it has 2 options-add a category or view all.
If I click add a category, it wants me to create a new category. If I click view all it just refreshes my list to show everything. No where does it have that list like yours. I must be doing something wrong.

Can you do a screen shot of what you're seeing?

Just had a thought. Do you have any categories set up?

ok, that has me worried. I may have to crawl under the desk right now Smiling

Sounds like my question is 'what is a category'?
I thought it was talking about the different kinds of plants. For instance I add iris, ferns and hosta to my list. Then I can choose to see only hosta. I thought that was a category? guess not?

Aha! If I understand correctly how this all works, the only way to make part of your list private is to create a category that you can label as "private." You only want your list of Daylilies private, right? And I see you have a bunch. I think that if you create a category (that "Add a category" thingie), Dave may be able to move all your daylilies into it for you without you having do do them one at a time. And you can mark that category as private.

No, those are default "status" categories that Dave has as part of the system. Other categories are at your discretion.

After taking a second look at your list, you might want to make two categories for your Daylilies: Daylilies - Have and Daylilies - Wanted.
Or not. Depends on how you plan on using the information, really.

Yeah and if you want the entire list to be private (meaning nobody can see anything in your entire list except for you) just create a category called "Private" and put every plant in your list inside that category.

You have 144 daylilies in your entire list. You can edit them one by one and check off the category, or ask me and I'll move them all in at once.

But do you want ALL the daylilies in your list private, or just the ones you actually have?
