That one with the bottle interested me ... It got me to thinking if you filled them up with water and planted a circle around a plant if that would keep the roots just a bit warmer.

The sun shining on the glass should warm up the glass bottles and I'd think it would indeed keep the plants roots warmer.

I googled and found some great pictures of flower borders using colored glass bottles. https://www.google.com/search?...

The bottle trick might let you push zones as well! I think I might try it with some of my Caladiums.

I would worry about breakage - my household is just too rambunctious for something like that I think. Really pretty, though, I especially like the ones that are buried or have only a couple inches showing.

It is really awesome! The fourth one looks very stylish. But i am not sure it practical. I liked the wood siding path!

Hi Regina and welcome to ATP! Those glow in the dark pebbles are neat and I like the siding idea as well.

Several are nice but I wonder about their longevity. None would seem to be options for people who have ambulatory issues, the general public, or where there are tenants. After seeing my folks go through some issues in recent years, I have taken ambulatory issues and aging into heavy consideration on the planning side.
Always looking for interesting plants for pollinators and food! Bonus points for highly, and pleasantly scented plants.

I am almost always barefoot in my yard, so mown lawn pathways work best for me. I have a few bark paths as well, but those are a bit rough on bare feet when first laid down. They do tend to soften as they age, and sometimes the bark is soft to begin with. I also have a fair amount of poured concrete sidewalks, easy to maintain but not nearly as nice looking. For anything wheeled, though, they work the best.

I haven't been able to go barefoot in my yard - the previous owners apparently didn't care what they threw out in the yard ... every time it rains more junk like piece of metal, broken glass and plastic come to the surface - even insulation.

That is so awful, Anne. Our neighbors below us were the same way - the new owners raked and raked it but metal has a way of working its way to the surface (bicycles, appliances, who knows what all got buried down there...)

These are closer to my liking, natural, inexpensive (most of them) and (relatively) easy to make.

Ann, there is not a path in the article I would turn down. For some reason, I am a little rustic, I love the two that are winding, and go out of sight. I built a path this year. It's about 3 feet by 7 feet, and walks me right up to the faucet in the front lawn. Until I put this in, I was bringing dirt in pretty much everyday.

We have some aggragate sidewalks and some blacktop. On the hottest days this summers, my poor kitties both burned the pads of their feet so bad. I would love to come up with some little path that remains cool for them.

Greg, like you I prefer something a little more natural. Thanks for the link.

Laurie just plain old cypress mulch or pine straw would work for your kitties.
