I acquired two trees.
Each is grafted with four varieties including Toka which is supposed to be a pollenizer variety.
I am going to plant a Western Sand Cherry also, as it is supposed to be a pollenizer for plums.
Also acquired an Evans Cherry tree which is self fertile.
I now have to rethink the planting of the back 25 feet of the yard!
You 'll like the Evans cherry! A very ornamental small tree that bears at a young age and heavily most years. The cherries are big enough to pit by hand and are excellent for pie and jam (or jelly, if you don't want to pit them).
We have a very prolific plum tree in our front yard; it was here when we bought the place. I think it's some sort of Italian plum. Makes wonderful plum jam! But it's kind of a pain because half the fruit falls on the ground before it's ripe and attracts LOTS of yellow jackets and wasps, which does NOT please me.
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.
Thanks for the info and encouragement.
I have wanted an Evans cherry tree for a long time.
I am glad to hear they are as good as I had read they are.
Yes, if the plum trees work out then I will go back to jam making.
Time will tell how good these trees are as I have read that grafted trees
sometimes do not manage to live through our winters?
My inspiration for these was at my son's place on Vancouver Island.
My grandchildren were picking delicious plums from two trees there.

Woffie, have you made plum dumplings? Here is the link for a recipe similar to one that I used to make when we had a plum tree. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/p...
That looks like a LOT of work! Think I'll stick to plum jam on biscuits! Besides, I don't think DH would let me get away with whisking those cooked potatoes away from him!

Woofie, it really wasn't that much work because I would do the potatoes the day before, just cook extra on that day, making sure of course that your DH got his fill. Plum pie is good too, love that.
