I am really kind of late getting this message on, for our tuberoses started blooming a couple of weeks ago. So far, we have a few good clumps and they are so wonderful with the fragrance in the evenings. I will say, they are hard to predict as to how they will perform from year to year, but we had a lot of rain in May, and that may have set them up for this nice bloom. Also, the temps have been pretty mild so far, highest has been 94 degrees and just for a short time.

I can smell them. They do smell good.

I grow mine in pots I may not get blooms this year. If I do it will probably be in Sept now. If I keep them growing over the winter indoors I get blooms in Aug. I let them go to sleep last year.

This should be our last tuberose blooming this year. It has such an amazing fragrance which is carrying quite some distance for only one bloom.

Hi, Glen, I have been looking at your tuberose pics--are you growing the double variety? We only grow the single, tried the doubles and they just didn't do well at all for us. Tuberoses are fantastic for fragrance, aren't they? I find it interesting that when cut and brought in the house, they do exactly as outdoors--the fragrance comes out in the evening. It has never been my good fortune to visit Australia, but my husband was able to spend some time there years ago, and he loved it. Best wishes from here and I love looking at your daylily pictures. Smiling

Thank you, Avedon. Yes, mine is the double. It got it many years ago as a bulb in a packet. It did well and I have several clumps now. The perfume is quite stunning. People smell the blooms as they walk by the yard and sometimes asks what it is. I am glad you like the daylilies. Another season is passing, though, as summer looms.

I love the fragrance of tuberoses! For some reason or another, I haven't seen any for sale in our area for quite some time. I'll have to add some to next seasons bulb order list.

Tuberoses are doing very well so far--must have been all that rain, but we've had rainy springs before and they didn't do much.

Worked at a large display garden where they would plant up a huge indoor area with Tuberoses, what an incredible display and fragrance.

I've only had the doubles. Any thoughts on the differences - esp in fragrance?
“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Hey, Chantell, here we are again--how nice. When we lived in an suburban area quite a few years ago, we tried the doubles and they just didn't do for us, so switched to the singles with much more success. So, I can't comment about differences between them, maybe somebody else can chime in. Take a look at the post up above by Glen Ingram of Australia--he is growing the doubles, seem to do fine for him.

Yes, the doubles do fine here. I started with a bulb and I have many clumps now throughout the garden. With all the winter rain had recently, a surprising scape come up this month but the White Cockatoos spotted it and severed it. Grumbling

I have both. The double seem to take longer to bloom and they are not as fragrant as the single. That is according to my nose.

They are not hardy in my zone so I grow them in pots and bring the pots in for the winter. My single bloom first and the doubles bloom much later. It is not bad because I have flowers later with the double but because the fragrance is not as strong as my single I place the pots on the table close to sitting areas.

Vintage - thank you! Just when I needed somebody with first scent experience Hilarious! Obviously it's too late in the season but does anybody have a good source for the single tuberoses for next year? I have more than enough of the doubles.
