Hi There,

I have a question about my 2 jovibarbas. They seemed to have lost their color but otherwise seem healthy. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong here. Whenever I buy them, they have beautiful vibrant coloring, then they green up and look like this with dry leaves in between. Any thoughts on this?

Any help would be very much appreciated ...

Hi Jennifer. I think Julia is right. Many of them have a green season, usually in the heat of summer. Usually spring and early summer is when they would have their most vibrant colors.
Do you know the name of your Jovi?

Oh my gosh, thank you! I thought I was doing something wrong. Lol
This one is Angel, it was a freebee from Youngs. I bought some rollers from there too and they greened up as well. They really don't have any new growth but they are alive and well.

Youngs has wonder Jovis and Semps. Your above photo show a nice healthy plant. Keep up the good work.
Something else that will determine their color is the amount of sun they are receiving.
Is this your first year with these plants?

Yes and unfortunately,I have many casualties under my belt. I always want to baby them and I am finally getting it through my head that they don't like that very much. I have a new baby though on one of my rollers. It was a huge triumph for me today Hurray!

I'm just trying to get them through the summer right now. It's so hot and muggy here. I can't wait until I can put them outside more. I put them in a sunny window with sheer curtains for now. I figure they like cooler and dryer climates so AC is the way to go at this point. I would grow something else that works better for this climate but I just love them and so it is worth all of the extra effort for me to move them around . I just made some frames with some chicken wire so next summer a lot of them will be on a wall and they will be protected from the heat somewhat. They are not finished yet. They are still being filled. I get fussy over color schemes and placement but I will definitely post some pics when I'm done.

Jennifer here is what I did on a metal pantry shelf - most updated photos I don't know how to size the photos for ATP so you have to click on the image to see the semp details but you get the idea!! Smiling

That is beautiful Greg ! Thank you for sharing, I am never sure if I should stuff them or wait and let some grow in. I have limited space and I always find a new semp that I just "have to have"so I tend to stuff them but perhaps I should do what you are doing and let them fill in with some new babies because it's fun to see the progress. I will post pics of what I did last night in a bit but I need to dust them off a little.

@msrockwood did you ever get photos of your semps?? I'd love to see them! I go with some stuffed in and some with space. I know many people though who say, fill it in so it looks good, because you can always remove some of the semps - and I do agree with this. One thing you may not be able to see from the photo is that many of the offsets are growing up rather than around the mom plant Smiling I tip my hat to you.
