Total surprise .. haven't really looked at it in a while and when I was watering it today I saw it's got a pineapple! Anyone know long til harvest from this stage?

The question now, will it do ok in a greenhouse that gets down to the mid to upper 40's at night or should I keep it in the house come winter?

Right, and don't take it into the greenhouse until the little purple flowers are gone. It needs to be pollinated to actually make a fruit. Unless the nights start getting too cold, of course. Below 50 you'll have to bring it in. Don't forget it needs more water when the fruit is sizing up, too.

You're lucky the fruit will be forming inside the greenhouse, Anne. Here, my pineapples out in the garden get eaten by squirrels and raccoons before I can get to them. I have to spray them every day with a concoction of hot pepper stuff.

We've got one that we planted from a grocery store pineapple top. It's about 2 years old now. How long does it take them to flower?

Usually about 2 years, Holly. Keep it warm though, and it might start a flower sooner.

I have read too that if you want to trigger the flowering process, you can put the plant in a bag with ripe apples so the ethylene gas it emits help trigger the flowers.

Mine flowering was a complete surprise ... I brought it into the house instead of keeping it in the greenhouse .. it has just way too much spread for it to be safe in a GH .. I ended up cutting off the horizontal leaves and all the pointy leaf bits.

Well I'm waiting for it to start ripen .. when it's ready it should start turning yellow at the bottom and become fragrant. Yours is looking good! I hope mine starts pushing out babies soon.

Thanks! Hopefully it is about due. Nice and warm in the GH but you're right, there is a BIG spread. Does it have both male and female flowers on the one plant?

Pineapple is doing great! It's a little over a third of the size you see in the grocery store so it's got a ways to go. I spritz it every day and pour water in the top since it's pretty dry in the house .. I even put Christmas Lights on it! It's so cute!
