It has been very quiet here on the farming forum this month. I am guessing folks are either busy or hibernating (estivating, really) from the summer's oppressive heat. I somehow doubt everyone is off on a six week cruise of the seven seas. By the way, which seas count in the famous seven?
I am still fixing things: the hog-resistant fence along the side of the south paddock that backs up to the river is done, some of the old fence still needs to be removed, the new concrete water troughs are installed with their float valves caged to prevent heifer or horse interference, all the electric fencing is now working - at least temporarily, the septic system is operative, though not really finished, the shredder is fixed but it is so dry it is not currently needed, the switches for the pump in the well have been replaced and the only new failures are all three lawnmowers and two lights outside the barn.
An unrelated and rather idiotic project is a rose arbor. I planted a Mermaid rose to climb a dead tree growing in the fence line of an alley between two paddocks. The tree fell down and I foolishly transferred the rose to the fence, She liked it there and has grown huge, arching over the alley - but not high enough. So continuing in the same impractical path, I am now building an arbor under the rose. It is an arch shaped from livestock panels, and I am gradually jacking it up under the giant rose to make the alley more passable. In the future, I hope I will have sense enough to build the arbor first.

Chuckling, PorkPal. I've almost always acquired animals before having an adequate home for them, then jerry-rigged something up on the fly. The lone exception is my present chickens, which we actually planned for ahead of time. Much easier...perhaps with age does indeed come wisdom.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

Well, there ARE still farming folk here.

The SU and I have 2 milking jobs this weekend. Sat. morning at one place, Sat. night and Sun. morning at another, and back to the first place for Sunday night and both milkings on Monday. The guy for the Sat. pm and Sun. am asked way last spring, so the other guy had to either deal with it or find someone else. He pretty much has no-one else, so I would imagine his hired boy will do the 2 we can't. He will be ok with a couple, he's just not able to deal with anything that doesn't go according to the normal plan.

Next milking job is for that first guy again the 11-13th of Oct.

The SU made a couple bags of hay silage for a neighbor; they got done last evening. I imagine another neighbor will want high moisture corn bagged as soon as it can be pounded out of the combine tank. LOL I think last time he bagged for him they put up 2-250's and 1- 300 foot ones.

Need to mow yard today; hope I can get most of "my half" done before I have to go to work at the sale barn. There's so much dew, I hope I can get started by 10:30 or so.

Spousal Unit.

Speaking of which............he IS over at that neighbor's as I type, but not using our machine, he's babysitting someone else's. It's a larger capacity machine, but they needed someone to keep tabs on it. So, he did. Oh, he just drove in the driveway. I suppose he'll be over there again tomorrow.

Worked at Equity today. There were 211 calves. Had a different auctioneer today and he got through them in about 2 hours. Prices are pretty good, I think. I need to look at the tickets and just see. LOL
