Good thing you have lots of time. One of my co-workers lives in Bridgeland, and sent around pictures from his street this morning, saying it was like Jurassic Park (which I have never seen, but I don't imagine it was a favorable comparison).

I didn't plant very many bulbs last year, and this year's spring garden was depressing, so I've ordered a couple dozen bulbs from Botanus this year. They always send kind of late, and I wasn't going to do that again, but the pictures were so pretty.

I did not order any this year, but I found some good ones at local garden centers.

OMG, Caroline, what a mess of wet snow! I hope it melts soon so you can do some more gardening before the ground freezes. It's been cool here, but no frost yet. I have not yet got my greenhouse ready for putting the tender plants into it for winter. I guess I'd better hurry up! I have not ordered any bulbs this year, but I will be planting some peonies.

It should melt in the next day or two as they are predicting warmer weather.
Just too early as summer is not really over until the 22 nd?
I guess it is meteorlogical fall already but...?

It has already half melted and it wasn't that warm today. Tomorrow is supposed to be about 10C.
This is what the common area in my condo complex looks like.

I will not complain about having 101 degrees yesterday. Much too early to be coping with snow. I am so sorry you all are having to deal with it now. Sad

The power was out in several parts of the city. Mine was only out for an hour or so but it appears to have scrambled my phone's circuitry when it came back on.

There was frost last night, but hopefully the snow offered some protection.
I did not cover anything.
It should all melt today as it is a sunny day.

My son is a long haul driver and he was telling me about the ice and snow going down through Saskatoon, Saskatchawan (?) down to Minnesota. Had to get around a totally jacknifed tractor/trailer going up a hill, a buffalo (bison??) walking down the middle of the road, etc. I would have thought we would have snow before you. Except we are on the coast with Japanese currents.

I feel for those who must drive when it is so snowy.
Cleaning up is a chore. More damage than I had thought.
The City, or some kind soul, took away the branches that I cut down on Thursday.
Cut some more broken branches today.
It is good that it is near the end of the season.
One shade bed is a mess from having branches piled on it.
I ordered wildflowers to sow over it in the early spring.
I had a nice stand of For-get-me nots there, and they are smushed into the ground.
This late, I think the roots will be okay-maybe flowers late next year?

The last couple of mornings on my way to work there were piles of broken branches piled up on the side of the road, often a block at a time.

Damage to my garden was much worse in the back then it was in the back. I have a couple of spruce trees in front of my house and they seem to keep the beds warmer. My gladiola in the front still looks like it is going to bloom. The ones in the back, not so much. I had several acidothera mixed in with my gladiolas and I think they have died, while the gladiolas may have survived. I'll give it a couple of days.

Even if things survived, they were often so flattened I doubt if they will recover this year.

Oh dear! That is gardening in Calgary!
But there is always next year for gardeners.
Last night I drew up a plan for my whole yard for next spring.
It is mostly sowing seeds directly, and I will do petunias under lights to put out into containers.

Sorry to hear that you guys had so much damage from that early snow, sounds like a lot of damage to trees. Sad
