This is a cute native that is a vigorous enemy of turf farmers, lawn growers and gardeners in Australia. I even had its white roots themselves, after which it is named, turn up in the roots of daylilies that I have purchased.

It is not well liked. In the garden it can be okay as a groundcover but it can take off and strangle plants. There is not much one can do though. It is very, very difficult to eliminate.

I've read that it's also very toxic, Glen, works something like snake venom on the body. I think I'd be trying to get rid of it too.

I don't remember where I read it, and I'm not familiar with the plant, it just seems that I remember the snake reference

When it's about plants, wildflowers specifically, I usually remember. But I think I saw it when I was looking at lobeline, which is in a lot of lobelia and if something in a plant refers to medicine, then that's what I remember. Might have been when I was checking out the cardinal flower -- Lobelia cardinalis. Some stuff just gets stuck in my mind and remains, other times I can't remember yesterday.

I don't think White Root grows here, so what do I know? Not much.

Knowing White Root, Sharon, it would love to grow in America on its way to world conquest. Actually it is not a bad groundcover. But I have just put in my native violets and it is going to be very difficult saving them from smothering from White Root.

Thank you very much, Glen, but you can keep your White Root down there; I have enough trouble with Creeping Charlie taking over my yard, my sidewalk, my garden paths . . . .

!!Chamber Bitter Phyllanthus urinaria is a discovery for me. I have always wondered what that weed was in my garden.
I have never been able to identify it but it can just take over.
And yes, it is introduced and widespread here.

Well, heck, I could sell them a whole truckload per week of the stuff. Actually, en masse, it's quite pretty. It just doesn't grow where I want it to & instead grows where I don't want it to.

I hate it. I didn't realise it had flowers. If I miss one it just cascades through the garden.

Who can see the flowers? Need a magnifying glass. Look at all those seeds! Talk about prolific!
