All three were volunteers that I had no choice but to dig up in May. They've survived the summer and the two (left and right) are about 3 - 4" tall, while the center one (found near Ryusen so I have high hopes) is about 6 - 7" tall.

Another one, not shown, had been left in place for three years and is now about 3' tall. I potted it in July and it's fine...so far.

Do I put them all in the unheated garage for the winter? Do they get watered once a week or once a month?

We have an indoor, unheated porch, but with doors to two bedrooms it never gets cold. The minimum night time temperature would be around 55 but daytime temperatures go up to 90 for a few hours on sunny days.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I would dig a shallow hole and cover the saplings with a liberal amount of leaves and let them slumber outdoors till spring.

Thanks for responding. Our local nursery owner/horticulturist said he'd keep them in an unheated garage over winter with a drink of water now and then. I'll decide when I see how much space I have in the garage once the last deposit at the dump is made.

Thanks, Bill. That's exactly what I'll do. It's the first time raising little ones for me so I'll do as you, the pro, advise.
