Kokedama is a traditional Japanese art form that basically has moss used as a container for a plant...google it and you can find all kinds of info on how to do it....really easy!!

Here is a picture of a bromeliad that I did using the Kokedama method....seems to like it so far!! I also have a couple ferns done this way ....

Have no clue what kind....Home Depot special, but I love it's colors....

I hate losing plants....I know they are "just plants" but when you nurse them along and baby them and get them to grow, bloom, and be pretty and they die....it's like losing a friend..... Crying

That's fascinating! I think your plant is a Cryptanthus.

That is certainly interesting. And seems easy enough to do.
Love the leaf color of your bromeliad.

Yup I have heard of Kokedama..been wanting to indulge in it..but just got lazy..so I just enjoy seeing lovely kokedama displays when I go to Japantown in San Francisco.

Love your Kokedama! Do update later on how the growth goes. It sure works well with most indoor tropicals.

I took some pics of mine today. Thank you for the idea I can borrow. I found them for 1.00 at Lowes.

This one I put in a little birdhouse I found at the thrift store.

This one is a darker red. I need to figure out what to do with it and I am think your idea is perfect.

I also picked these two up for 1.00 at Lowes and need to figure out how to display them.

I have seen a display in Japantown where they hang the kokedamas on a bare tree. Really looks cute and neat. Too bad can't get photo, owner prohibited it.

That is odd. If you stand across the street and snap a pic is that not allowed?
How are they different from Chinatown San Francisco? I took a lot of pictures there because I had to go there several times a year for business.

Nah, can't see it across the street, it was in the third floor, so only way to see it to visit that display area. There were other displays on the mall across but not as impressive as that one on the third floor of that particular store.

Japantown is much cleaner and more organized compared to Chinatown SF

Okay I get it. This process reminds me of mounting orchids. When I saw these I picked them up to try mounting orchids and these to a limb. I thought it would have some color when the orchids are not in bloom.

Hi ArtKokedama. Welcome to ATP.
What an amazing art form of growing plants. This is the first time I have heard of this art form, when this thread was started by Kim.
Can you tell me what kawaii means.

Hi ArtKokedama and TY for the link to your site. I have bookmarked it and also subscribed to your emails.

I wish I had areas around my house where I could put plants... I can think of soooo many possibilities for this planting method. I love it...so simple and "pure".
