Has anyone grown the one called Royal Red?
I need one that does not grow over 5 foot in the south and same width..

I have the one called attraction and it is beautiful and
stays in that height range of 5 foot by 5 foot..or less.
in zone 8.
I like the long blooms and large ..preferred..
and upright ..

not sure that exist in a smaller butterfly bush, does it?

thanks
sheri

Not sure this would help but did you read the article on Buddleia at Plant Delights web site has very good information there. Plus his reminder that most butter fly bushes may be hard pruned even in the south. Thus maintaining a more controlled height.

Check out the 'Buzz' series. The 'Buzz Velvet' is gorgeous and similar in color to 'Royal Red'. Smiling

Sorry, I haven't grown 'Miss Ruby' or 'Ellen's Blue'.

Like I mentioned, I've grown 'Buzz Magenta' and 'Buzz Velvet' which are compact butterfly bushes with large flower spikes. 'Buzz Velvet' is the prettiest of the two in both color and form. Mine are in containers so they get no more than 3'x3', but in the ground they aren't supposed to get any bigger than 5'x5'.

It's seems a little early to know for sure if your 'Ellen's Blue' is dead or not. Even if the wood is dead they can sometimes re-sprout from the roots. How big was the plant's rootball when you planted it? If it was a tiny mail-order plant then it may not have had time to establish itself before the cold weather set in.

I hope that someone that's grown those two cultivars chimes in soon for you. Smiling

I bought Miss Ruby and also Miss Molly.

I am so excited waiting for a bloom in a month or two!
I was able to find Miss Ruby at a nursery in the country

lucky me cause Lowes and nurserys had nothing ..

I did order from HOme depot my Miss Molly and did before the
hot weather as I do not want it harmed in transit in a hot delivery
truck..

It was large and green and a great buy..
that was Miss Molly online at Home Depot
in March and they have some left now in April

They appeared to be in two gallon sizes..or larger
for 18.99 each and shipping free if over 50.00 bought
What a deal..and I am totally pleased with the way they looked
when they arrived..

We just purchased 5 Tutti Frutti butterfly bushes from Ellis Home and Garden. We already had one of these that had been in our garden for a year, and we were totally pleased by its performance. Also, it has stayed evergreen, even though we did had temps in the low teens for a couple of days. According to the info tag, these are supposed to be hardy to -10/-20 degrees. Mature height is 2.5 feet and width to 3 feet and our bush has already achieved that. We also have a Petite Blue Heaven and it has the same growth habits as Tutti Frutti. We wanted to have smaller bushes to care for, and so far we really are enjoying these.

I had the blue chip butterfly bush at one time
but I liked the long blooms that come on the larger bushes
so that is why I bought Miss Molly and Miss Ruby

I had just enough room for them in sheri's healing flower garden bed.
All of us love our butterfly bushes!

I love the giant one called 'Black Knight.' It smells like grape to me. I wish the smaller ones smelled good. I heard some of the new ones do smell, but I haven't seen any yet.

I have ordered Ellen's Blue and it is my understanding that it is very fragrant. I can hardly wait to get the plants and find out.

I should have also said that I am getting Adoni Blue, and it is supposed to have fragrance. Miss Molly is also coming in on the same order, can't remember if that one has fragrance. However, these are the smaller butterfly bushes, I think 5 feet on A. Blue and 4 feet on Miss Molly, hope that works here since we have a pretty long growing season and plants can get much bigger than listed stats. Also, these plants can be pruned, so I should be able to keep them to the size I want.

Okay, just received the wonderful news that I will receive a BUZZ TrueBlue butterfly bush for Mother's Day. It should arrive by next Thursday. Is this exciting or what? This plant will be coming from Jackson and Perkins so I will find out what kind of plants they send. Years ago I used to order roses from them, and the plants were always good, so hoping for the same this time.
