Are you seeing the foliage in the spring, Cameron?

Hi Purple, every Spring the bulbs produce lots of lush foliage but no blooms. Last year we had a bad ice storm and cold snap so the foliage looked kind of rough this past Spring.

Betsy those are so beautiful, I'm green with envy. After 11 years I'd probably lose patience with them LOL. Purple I saw the picture you posted of the lycoris in your mom's yard, that's another stunning display. I saw more around town blooming in full shade in someone's yard by their front door.

TexasPlumeria87, you are in the same zone as me. You should be seeing blooms even with ice. Maybe not getting water right before bloom time. We have had a dry summer so not all mine are blooming. Just the ones that got water at the right time seem to be blooming.

Thanks for telling me that Sallysmom, that actually makes lots of sense because I've been keeping them dry thinking they would bloom once it finally rained. I actually found one that's producing a leaf so the others will probably do the same. Next year I'll try to keep them watered in September.

Well I decided to take a chance and plant my lycoris bulbs in my shade garden. They were in a pot which is one reason they probably didn't bloom this year but I also counted 45 bulbs in that small pot so it was very crowded. The area where they are planted now gets dappled sunlight so I'll see how that goes. I can't believe I started with just 7 bulbs 4 years ago.

It's that time again, incidentally matching the time of fall equinox. I nominate equinox lily if it should come up that anyone thinks these need another common name, and "you gotta stop and look at the lilies" as a new clichรฉ. So short-lived! :+)

Yay! These are worth all of the work of digging them up from mowed areas and moving to beds!!

They do need some sun when they have their green leaves. Won't bloom as well if they are in heavy shade during the winter. They can be planted around trees that lose their leaves in the fall, but won't do as well under evergreen ones. That's been my experience with them.

Everyone's lycoris look pretty. Mine didn't bloom again so I moved them to an area that gets lots of afternoon sun. Hopefully in a couple of years I'll be able to post pictures of mine blooming?
