I would love to see how your Fame Monstrose is doing. Please share your experience with how stable this odd leave growth is.

Mine came in 2011, and had the most wonderfully odd shaped leaves. This lasted until the following year when all the offsets came with normal shaped leaves. Even the original Monstrose leafed original rosettes reverted to normal leaf shape by 2013, without producing any Monstrose rosettes.

This last spring I was going to remove all of them from my collection. I was no longer interested in them. So glad I didn't get around to doing the removal. Look what is peaking out from the surrounding rosettes. Wish I could understand what conditions cause the distorted leaves to form?

Most unusual. I have Fame so maybe I will get an odd one. Also have 'Grigg's Surprise' but not 'Fame Montrose' A beautiful semp and what a nice surprise for you Lynn. Raining like crazy here today so not pictures unless it lets up some.

It rained like crazy here Wed. and Thurs. Today is breaks with beautiful blue skies. The semps are loving it.
I have 'Fame' also, so far it has never produced the thickened leaves. But it sure is a gorgeous semp.

Often, the young, normal looking Fame Monstrose rosettes will convert to the monstrose form as they mature. Also, some rosettes that look normal even when mature will produce monstrose offsets. It seems to me that many of them will alternate generations between normal and monstrose form. I'm "casually" working to isolate a possible line of monstrose rosettes that do not alternate or revert, but so far nothing consistent to report. I'm moving 2nd gen monstrose rosettes from monstrose hens to a separate location to see if eventually I'll end up with consistent monstrose rosettes. This is one of my favorites.

Now that is an interesting study twit. I will follow your example. I will isolate this rosette and any others I find in this colony. I will work on this colony today.

This offsets is coming from one of the original rosettes that reverted to normal leaves in 2012. I also have a small colony of Fame, in another bed, that has not produced anything but normal offsets.

My 'Fame Monstrose' has gone all normal but half of my normal 'Fame' has gone monstrose! If I get a bloomstalk on it I'm going to self pollinate to see what comes from that. Hopefully something more monstrose.

Lynn I received my plants from you, but they were part of the reverted ones - I just went into the database and removed my name from having "Fame montrose" since I really only have 'Fame' (also had to change one of the group photo thingy's, because the semp in it was listed as fame montrose, but it was only Fame...there ya go, that's my story!! I looked very carefully today to see if I could find any montrosum on my Fame, sadly only normal ones!!

I think two is appropriate as there is a monstrose form that has been marketed as such even though it does revert. The original plant was NOT monstrose. 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' was weird from day one *and was introduced as "forming crests and double rosettes) even though there are some that are more normal-looking.

I don't have Fame Monstrose but I sure am enjoying this thread. I see we have a new sempy word (verb)... "to monstrose"

It almost sounds like a dance craze, as in "Do the Monstrose". I'm just not sure what that would look like though...

I guess I have just spent my few minute break on this. . I'm spending this sunny day dividing and replanting many semps. Blue Boy has moved out of the Cowboy Hat and I'm still in the process of deciding who will move into the empty "apartment" since the hat has a ways to go before it has rotted away.

Connie your cowboy hat is good I hope you plant something wonderful in it!

I decided to put some small Pacific Blue Ice semplings in it. They are very small so there will be room for them to grow.

Sounds pretty! I just got that one from Patty this spring, and noticed the cool blue fall coloration!!

The 'Monstrose Mash'. You would have to twist yourself into some kind of contortions.
