Yesterday I was so surprised to see the moonflowers just blooming away even though it was morning. Because of the cool, cloudy weather, they stayed open and did not begin to close until hours later. Just love them, so beautiful and fragrant.

Mine did the same a couple of times. Flowers are done now and I have bagged the seed heads to collect when they dry.

We are still getting scattered blooms, but seeds are not ready for collection yet.

I only grew them once. The flowers were beautiful and fragrant, but they don't bloom until so late up here, they're hardy worth growing.

Karen, I started mine in pots and gave several away. People planted them. I did not. Finally, I put them in a big planter. So mine bloomed really late. But still worth it. Plus I am hoping for some seeds for the Piggy Seed Swap. Those seed pods don't look close to popping yet.

I didn't get any from mine either. When the season ended, the seeds were still forming.

Here it is, the third moonflower to bloom on our cattle panel trellis. I wasn't able to get pictures of one and two, but since they all pretty much look the same, no big deal. I expect this picture to change quite a bit in a couple of months, it will be way different, should have lots more flowers to show.

“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Hi, Chantell, thank you for your nice comments. If you or anybody else doesn't know, I posted pictures of the arbor to the Garden Structures Forum thread of Cattle Panel Trellis Arch. Go to Page Four, scroll down a ways and you will see how the arch looked in 2015 when we had two moonflower plants on each side--definitely overkill, nearly collapsed it at one point when we had a storm. Learned the lesson to put just one plant on each side nodding You may envy us the moonflowers, and I will return the favor of envying you your gardenias and jasmine, I'll bet they are lovely.

Here are pictures from a couple of days ago when we were having some rainy weather--the moonflowers opened earlier and I was able to get these pictures, plus caught a visitor to the flowers.

We are so lucky to have these beautiful flowers with wonderful fragrance, and then the bonus of the nighthawk moths pollinating the flowers.

@kqcrna Karen, I have noticed that some are much more fragrant than others. Some lacked the intensity, of scent, than some others from the same pkt. Here, they can sell inexpensive packets. I am uncertain about seeds I had saved, as they ended up in a plastic bag, out back, when I moved. But can always get some more, as sometimes they go on sale for only 10 cents a packet!
Yes, those" hummingbird moths" can get busy at night & probably help pollinate the flowers. I usually have blooms by June, when sown early...
