Here we are at the new Aroids forum! It is my hope that this community will be at least as fun, informative and exciting as the "old" garden, and preferably, even more so!!

LariAnn: So glad you started this forum ... now we need others to find their way over here to share and help us novices learn!

3jsmom: Wow, that sure is a beauty! Do you have a photo of the whole plant by itself, maybe showing more of the plant, base/stalk/trunk/growing tips? I think I see an Anthurium on the right and that looks like an Epiphyllum branch on the left in the picture.

I will be watching in hopes someone can give you a name for that one!

Hi LariAnn! How's the caladium crosses doing? I lost most of mine, but there are a few that made it. Will try again this year. ;-)

Here is a pic. The the leaf on the left was a cryptanthus (or cryptabergia). It is in the ugly strawberry planter I made from dog food bag, lol. The large philo leaves are around 8 inches long and 3 wide (just guestimating as I put the plant back up). The growth point was removed from the bigger growth before I got it, so it is starting the smaller vine. I am curious if this type of vine will make the big thick stems on it's own or what growing conditions can I provide to encourage it. I plant to give it something to climb, I think today :). Sometimes I forget, I should write a list, lol. I actually should give support to a few plants. Thank you for looking.

Hi, LariAnn! Very glad to see you here and heading up the Aroids Forum.

Most all of my aroids are currently mush after the two weeks of 20s F nights, except for one lone Alocasia wentii left standing erect and healthy as a result of living under the shade of some 20 ft tall Root Beer Plants (Piper auritum) that took the brunt of the descending frigid air and gave the EE just enough protection to survive. It looks very defiant amongst all the surrounding brown!

Welcome, Jeremy! Take heart about your aroids as some will prove to be resilient. I am interested in knowing which Alocasias handle the cold the best. I already know that A. odora and hybrids are much more capable of springing back than A. macrorrhizos and hybrids are. Nonetheless, surprises are possible, as I have already observed in my own plants.
