It was a very busy month here. A lot of my time was spent shredding pastures - most cut tall to discourage the weeds but preserve the grass - and paddocks which I cut as short as possible to prepare them for over seeding with winter rye. Meanwhile the electric fence around one of the larger pastures was deteriorating to the point that it was breaking often so I began replacing it. First, however, I had to do some brush clearing along the fence lines to make room to work. I am trying aluminum wire this time to see how it holds up. It is also wonderfully light and easy to work with. Before I got done with the shredding, the shredder broke so it is still at the welder and the last of the paddocks around the barn are not done. I had planned to order some replacement pullets this fall, but I got distracted with other tasks, and the hatchery isn't offering any more chicks this year.
