On to my next Quikwall project! I bought this cheap solar sculpture last fall and was trying to decide how to display it in the gardens. I decided to make a pedestal out of styrofoam, the same kind Gordon used in some of the pieces he's posted. I used Quikwall and chicken wire to form the pedestal, coated it with Quikwall and painted it with textured faux stone spray paint. I wasn't happy with the pedestal however, it was just too boring!! This was about the same time I became interested in mosaics and decided to use the Quikwall and "attach" a cat to the post with a mosaic design to look like our cat, Lucky. Smiling

After successfully finishing two Quikwall projects I've got a few more in the works and plenty more in my head! Whistling I've seen plenty of EXPENSIVE pieces of garden art I'd love to add to the gardens but unfortunately the budget won't allow it. I began to realize that Quikwall might enable me to make my own 'knock off' of the pieces and this is the one I'm working on right now. I don't have any photos of the work in progress but this is what it's supposed to look like when I'm done.

I bought a bell on sale in February and constructed the base and circle in two pieces with styrofoam and Quikwall. The area of the gardens where it will be placed demanded tall legs but they'll be hidden behind a wooden walkway so it should have the same effect once installed. Sticking tongue out This piece is advertised for over $1000.00!!! Once completed the whole project, bell included, will cost me less than $50.00 and obviously won't be as heavy to move into the gardens! Thumbs up

Lovely Debbie.. they are all wonderful... the cat looks a bit lke a Mayan panther..
about knockoffs... putting your personal touch on an idea from something you've seen...i t's all yours... there's lttle that hasn't been done in 30-40 centuries of making things.. it's nice to show off something that's been unseen... yours are quite unique..
yes.. I remember your startng the pedestal many years ago... it's come out wonderfully

I made a QW birdbath on a stand. The stand was a pain. I made the birdbath in 2 pieces so the leaf can be taken off to clean it.

Thanks all. The base is made from a 2" PVC pipe covered with hardware cloth. The very bottom is a chicken wire "donut" that I put in a saucer for a large pot. Then I put the PVC pipe in the donut hole and wired them together. For the very top of the stand I took the leaf and formed a piece of hardware cloth to the shape of the bottom of the leaf (maybe about 10" x 12") and wired that to the top of the PVC pipe. Filled the saucer with QW to cover the wire, then covered the pipe and top. The leaf just sits in the bowl on top of the stand. It's a large leaf and heavy enough that it won't blow off or fall off very easy if somebody bumped it.

Good info....thanks! I tip my hat to you. I'm planning to do something similar with PVC to hold a birdhouse I covered with pebbles. My son hooked up a utility sink in my daughter's basement while I was there and he had a couple of pieces of PVC he was going to throw away!!! I grabbed them quick and hauled them all the way back to Virginia. Hilarious!

You can always put it in smaller pails to bring it up. It's easier to store that way too. Big Grin
