**Note: I posted this in All Things Gardening but it isn't really getting any looks. I thought I would drop it over here since this is a region my mom and I would considering perusing for our trip**

I stumbled upon a mail order nursery from a posting on one of the pictures from the photo contest. Far Reaches Farm in Washington State. I will most likely order from them next year. Being in the midwest I try not to order plants from so far away because I hate the time/price of shipping and I try to order plants grown more "locally". But sometimes there are things that I want to try that just are not available in that range.

When I went to Far Reaches Farm's web site I kinda fell in love. They sound like the coolest people, they have values that I respect, and their place sounds like a most amazing haven! I WANT TO BUY THERE IN PERSON! But Washington is very far away Sad

So it got me thinking. I need to take a BIG road trip! I have not traveled for several years. I used to travel all the time. My mom and I love to drive to visit nurseries so I know she is game to go on this adventure with me. While it is not likely I can do it next year if I plan right and save I can make it happen for 2016.

So who has suggestions for nurseries that they would consider worthy of a cross country trip? Or perhaps even an area that has a cluster of nurseries?

Jennifer, I will make a list of nurseries around here and some in Oregon. If you and your mom come out here you have to stop and spend a few hours with me! I'm going to Far Reaches this spring. I have wanted to go there for years, my garden club is going. Your right about Far Reaches, Kelly is a fun and interesting person, I have heard him lecture a few times. I will also give you some Ideas about plant sales in the area. I have book club today and am hosting so may be tomorrow. Get me on your list now!

Thank you so much for posting this! They carry Meconopsis plants!!!! Hurray!
Port Townsend is a nice little town, at least it was when I was there a whole bunch of years ago.
If you're interested in roses, there's Northland Rosarium in Spokane. http://northlandrosarium.com/ I haven't been there, but I've ordered from them and was quite pleased with them. They carry clematis as well.

There is Edelweiss Perennials in Oregon, too. They have some nifty stuff. Got my toad lilies from them, along with some anemones and gentian. http://www.edelweissperennials...
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.

I know there are lots of great places in Oregon. Perhaps we could go up to Washington and head south so we hit Oregon and Northern California.

Oh boy I"m really going to have to start saving!!

This is a place to stop if you see something you like on line. They will not let you shop the nusery but you can pick up order.

This is a Sempervivum and sedum nursery just outside of Sequim. You have to E-mail her to make an appointment. She mostly sells at farmers markets.

There are a bunch of Iris farms in Oregon like too. When I go to the Northwest Garden Show this February I will pick you up a Western Washington Specialty Nursery Guide and send.

A few Oregon Nurseries, just of the top of my head.. Oregon has no sales tax like Washington.
Joy Creek Nursery, Dancing Oaks Nursery ( I will go there this spring), .
http://www.edelweissperennials... These people you have to catch at a garden sale , I believe they no longer allow visitors.

Jennifer and Arlene it would be so fun to meet you in person!! Julia and I have been to a couple of places but I think she already mentioned them!! Oregon especially is amazing for nurseries!! If ya'll were interested in sempervivum you could join our semp gathering which will happen in the spring of each year (I hope!) we've done this twice. It will almost certainly be either in late April or early May because that is when the semps have good coloration. Not many iris out yet then though. Either way - I'm glad Julia made me aware of this thread, so I can keep in the loop!! So many nurseries change over the years too so in a few years there may be more or less. Cheers I tip my hat to you.

Julia is correct, Edelweiss doesn't have nursery visits anymore.

But Wild Ginger Farm does http://wildgingerfarm.com/ (At the nursery, call ahead for hours, or at plant sales. I think they stopped doing the online sales).

Secret Garden Growers has some very interesting hard to find plants. http://secretgardengrowers.com...

Al's Garden Center in Woodburn, OR (No online sales)

I'll have to post some more, have to leave in a few minutes.

And this is the plant sale of the year to go to:
