Making Stepping Stones

By dave
October 14, 2011

At the Whitinger Farm, we are busy making stepping stones for a walkway between our driveway and the house. It's an ambitious project and we've already made dozens of stones. By popular request, here is the tutorial on how we're making them.

Dave - I remember these videos and thought you did an awesome job recording the process! New question .... Did the walkway/path get finished? If so ... could you post a photo of it, please!

I've made pavers using molds. I decorated them with small pieces of tile as well as impressions. I love the tumbled glass you used in many of your pavers. Really pretty!

Well, we didn't make the walkway as wide as we wanted, but I think for now it's sort of finished. We have room for maybe 6 more stones to finish it out and we'll maybe do that this winter.

I'll take some pictures and post them tomorrow. Smiling

Here's the path. Photos were taken with my cell phone and the lighting outside is terrible, so I apologize in advance for the terrible photos. I can take better pictures another day when weather cooperates.

And so you can see how they individually held up, see below. As you can see, not a single piece of glass has fallen out despite this path being used a LOT.

They have held up very well--good to see Thumbs up

I am always torn a little bit between my fondness for my cool rocks and all the stuff that grows around, over, and on them. When the snow finally melts and I clean up and everything is all stark and preparing to burgeon --in the way early spring-- I can find my paths and admire my rocks for a few weeks Hilarious!

Yes, the weeds definitely grow between the stones and that's a big inconvenience. I could spray but who wants to do that? So a couple times a year I pull the weeds out (like this morning! Hilarious! )
