I purchased this labeled Calamagrostis arundinacea var brachytricha . I find it here in the database

But there is also another listing for Korean Feather Reed Grass
Korean Feather Reed Grass (Calamagrostis arundinacea)

I am wondering if these should be merged.

Common names often are applied to different species and genera and aren't a reliable guide.

I'm not finding any relationship between the two entries you list, but I'm also not finding Stipa brachytricha in any taxonomic database. I'll keep looking and find out where that name came from.

Jennifer, I think you've found the answer. Stipa brachytricha was discovered to be a synonym for Calamagrostis brachytricha long ago -- so long ago that the taxonomic databases no longer bother to include the Stipa name in their listings. Calamagrostis brachytricha, in turn, became a synonym for Calamagrostis arundinacea. We have entries for all three names, so I'll merge them. Thank you.

I guess it's time to update the grasses in our database. Smiling

Why do we have no photos for this grass? It sounds interesting. Hope one or two of the members who have this will post pictures. Smiling

I only just got a small piece this fall. I will post next year when it is more mature.

I had to plant in a less than ideal spot as I got it end season and had no room for it. I will most likely move it late spring

Oh good, congratulations Jennifer--It is a neat one!

I tried to get some,
...it was labeled as Calamagrostis brachytricha...
but it turned out to be another Karl F--like I need any more of that!

so I am still on the look out...and a little leery to purchase too early, lest I get fooled again...

Dirt, does your Karl reseed or have you just planted too many? I have 5 clumps and would love it if they would reseed. So far, no.

Deb, no, can't say I've noted any reseeding.
Yes, I have planted too many Hilarious! they expand and crowd their neighbors so I keep making new clumps and crowding new neighbors. Last year I planted my leftovers in my mother's yard Whistling
