Wanted to share a pix of my wisteria vines. I am especially fond of my white wisteria. One of my purple wisteria vines is just a wild one, but I have one that is called Amethyst Falls. It is shown in the last pix and it has some white kinda lightly streaked through the blooms, making it a little lighter in color and often re-blooms. I also love the subdued shot with the sun filtering through the blooms.

Many years ago, I bought a pink wisteria vine from a mail order nursery called The Garden Store, but I can no longer find them. Does anyone out there know of or grow a pink wisteria? If so, anyone have any small ones to share? Alas, I lost my pink before I ever had the pleasure of seeing it bloom. If it was anything as lovely as the white, it would have indeed been a thrill, as the white is such a treat!

Also, does anyone know how to root them, as I would love to have more from my white. They are so hard to find, and I would so love to share. Any help would be appreciated. I have never rooted woody cuttings, but I assume it can be done.

Gorgeous! Wisteria is one plant I just can't keep alive. I have a white one now which has been in a pot for 10 years after I almost killed it when it was in the ground - but it refuses to bloom and the leaves go mottled in the sun. So power to you for having such a beauty!

Thank you Patti, I cannot imagine why you cannot grow it, as it is very easy. I did however notice your area said Australian Alps, so you are in Australia, maybe growing conditions for it there are different than here in the US??? Here it runs up trees and the purple kind just grows wild in our area a lot. In spring the areas where it grows wind, it's so lovely in bloom, looks like trees full of grapes.

Gosh you are so lucky! Mine is so sad. Wisteria does grow here, I have seen many huge ones on people's porches, even just up the road from where I live, on a neighbor's old farmhouse. Maybe it's me Sad You are inspiring me to buy another one and try again.

Oh maybe you should! This white one and the plain purple one, I dug up on the side of the road, lol. The white was at an old abandoned houseplace, they had white & purple growing and the one I dug up was small but near the big blooming white one. I just prayed it was white. It was. I dug the purple one from another area a mile down the road from our house where there were only purple vines growing. My Amethyst Falls plant, I did buy and it boasted of being a rebloomer. Sometimes it does. They are planted on a metal trellis near a utility pole with a power transformer that brings the electrical power to our home. We had so much rain last spring and for way into half of the summer, they just went wild and I just didn't really pay attention to them, as they are in the far corner of the yard and once the blooms are gone, then I'm really not looking at them much, you kno? I guess it was mid August when I looked, and behold, they had jumped the trellis, wound around the utility pole & to my horror had climbed up the pole! I ran for my lopping shears to quickly take the naughty unruly children, but quickly thought better of it with the birds eye view I had standing at the foot of the pole. Thank God I looked up, because I had my metal handle lopps poised and I was ready to cut, till I saw my tenatious baby was kinda in the transformer. I stopped DEAD in my tracks, don't kno if this would have lit me up or not, but since I wished to live to garden another day, I swallowed my pride and made an embarrassed call to the power company. They came out in a couple days and cut the rambunctious trio of vines from the pole & transformer. The boys laughingly told my hubby Joe they had been very busy for three weeks cutting the same darn vines from poles & transformers, that they reckoned all the dadgum women in the county must have planted those devilish vines next to power poles, so even though I still felt sheepish, I felt a little better. At least I wasn't the ONLY one who had been neglectful. But yes, do try again, but look on the side of the road for purple ones.

Anyone have a pink wisteria? I would love a start of one. I had one long years ago, but alas, lost it before it ever bloomed and the nursery I got it from, The Garden Store, which offered free lifetime replacement, seems to no longer exist. If it does, it's moved and changed names. Crying

Your wisteria are beautiful, Donna ! Very good thing you didn't take a chance on cutting that vine down that was up in the transformer... I'm not sure what would have happened, either, but best to be too careful when it comes to something like that Blinking

I've tried growing wisteria a couple of times but they never survived the winter here... last year I bought a variety called "Blue Moon" that's supposed to be hardy even here, so I'm crossing my fingers that it will still be alive once the snow is gone and that it will get some good growth this summer. Fortunately we didn't have the extreme cold that we had the previous year... so I'm quite hopeful! Smiling And I hope you find a pink one to grow -- having the pink, blue and white all growing would be really amazing.

Wow Donna...I don't think I have seen a white flower so wonderfully...congratulations...
Amathest Falls is a summer blooming American wisteria
Growing them together is great..I had a purple and a white at the ends of a couple of 25 ft cables purple on one side and white...as they met there was purple and white together...but they wanted as much green growth as they could have so they refused my pruning it..it soon gave it's growth closer to the roots...and above became a mat killing the part of the vine below and inside the mat...good luck with a three color display

This is pretty weird, and I don't know for sure if it's really available, but Sears!?

And one more in an unlikely place:

The one from Sears is cheaper, too. I'm halfway tempted to try ordering one to see what happens! Hilarious!

A co worker of mine has the purple and she was going to give me a rooted one. Donna, looks like the runners will root fat least in the purple) and that's how you propagate it.

Since the Sears one is just a color description, not a cultivar name, it wouldn't be in the database listed way, no idea which one it is. We do have the Amazon one.

Yes, I want one. My hubby will tell, he hates them! Lol. I adore them! Gordon , they the white and amethyst falls have been here for 8 or more years. There is a purple one growing tea feet from the white one. Amethyst falls is about 4 feet across a bench from it.
