Whenever I move it...inside to outside or outside to inside it seems to have most all the leaves dry... And dead..They don't fall off or get yellow.. So they look like it is alive... Same thing this fall.. But now it has a few stray flowers..a welcome sight in my hallway as come and go

A couple of big ones are blooming in my neighborhood right now, too Gordon. The one in the yard across the street from me has had no care for over 10 years as the house is abandoned. No water, no fertilizer, nothing. It's growing under a big live oak tree, and is quite close to the trunk of the tree, too. I've always wondered how it survives, let alone grows and blooms.

They bloom at this time each year, when we have cool, damp weather going on. Foggy some mornings, cloudy and high humidity. Have you tried misting them with cool water? Might help the leaves to stay open/alive.

Oh man, would I ever love to have you living across the street! However, this house has been unoccupied for at least 12 years, the old gentleman who owned it died in 2001, there was controversy over the Will. His ex-wife who lives in Massachusetts now owns it and her lawyer has been doing nothing but paying the taxes and having the grass mowed once a year.

Oh yeah, and they also cut that Calliandra down - you know, like a helicopter came through, and that usually happens right about now, when it is in bloom.

What I'm saying is the house is very likely full of bees and creepy-crawlies, and might even be a tear-down, full of mold etc. Well, you could build what you want then, anyway. There is even a 70's vintage Cadillac in the little shed around back . . if you need a car. I would think it might go for lot value right now. The house next door has been on the market for a year (it is a more recent wreck) and is priced about $70,000.

Sorry, the flowers were ruined by the rain last night, all soggy and smushed except this one that was under the leaf canopy a bit.

Thanks Elaine..niuce lookingcalliandra.. even with the rain... and nice house... i can deal with creepy crawlies.. i moved into an abandoned fish market on the TN river..in Al one time... just before I started building a solar home for my mother..only to find it infested with black widdow spiders.. a flock of chickens outside kept the place free of anything new comming in.. as they spent their day eatting everything from maybe 5 ft up... to the ground..and i could clear the inside up from there.... put a cement/plastic partition in the 10' long bait tank.. and got a bath with a see through into my koi and goldfish.. tank.... well i'll find somewhere warm to grow the tropicals. years ago I was looking around clearwateer.. and would upset folks seeing a lot like that one.. and saying I wanted to cut down the trees.. to give full sun to the tropical plants... i guess i need to build another house for myself.. or get some industral building to work up..to my taste...

Pretty sure a lot of what you grow on your rooftop would do great in the thin, shifting shade of those big Live Oaks. Certainly my brugs love it. Don't forget how much stronger our sun here is - not only further south but much cleaner air, too. (no industry) I'd be upset if you cut down those 200+ year old trees too, (bigger one in the back yard) but you sure could thin them regularly to keep lots of light getting through. It's a wise practice here anyway, to keep their windage down for storms.

I love the idea of the bait tank bath - but then I'm a diver so I swim with fishes anyway. You're a creative genius, for sure!
