I'm looking for alpine strawberry plants, does anyone grow them? I wish to buy or trade something for a start of white, red & yellow fruited alpine strawberries. Thanks!

Hey Donna, I grow a few different types of alpine strawberries, but don't have enough to divide right now. The voles have been pretty hard on my clumps in the last few years, and I'm just lucky to still have at least some of most of my cultivars left.

I grew mine from seed (pretty easily) from Fraises Des Bois (buy seeds from them at http://www.strawberryseedstore...). Be sure to get some 'Pineapple Crush'. That has been my favorite.

Thank you Brandon, I will check this out. I had wondered about the pineapple variety! Is there nothing that can be done about voles? How do they differ from moles?? I know if you put out stuff on top of the ground to kill off the grubs in your soil, most of the moles will go elsewhere, as it seems they feed off grubs in the soil.

I like what Mike McGrath has to say on moles/voles.

I have found seed to black alpine strawberries on eBay and thinking of ordering some. Anyone out there growing the black strawberries? If so, are they good? Are they really black? Are there any drawbacks to these plants??

I also have found some alpine strawberry plants offered on eBay. Anyone ever bought any strawberry plants off eBay??? I'm wondering if they are ok??? None of the sources I have found have them.

Ok Brandon, I need help! I've never grown strawberries from seed before, so I have NO idea how! Please help me! I just got them in, so I put them in the freezer for a couple of weeks. Seems I think I read SOMEWHERE I should do that??
Then how do I proceed? They are so tiny! Help! Confused

Donna the only way I've seen it work is using a wet paper towel under some sort of cover to keep the humidity up.

Actually here's a good video on germinating strawberries:
