I have a Norfolk island pine that my husband gave to me several years ago and I have some how managed to keep it alive. It has branches that are curled under, and is dropping a few branches.I have it inside in a place where it gets plenty of natural light in front of glass doors.this set of doors opens to a covered area that allows light but not direct light. I really would like to plant it outdoors, but need some wisdom on how to do this. Does it need a sunny area? Can it handle the climate here in zone 7b? How much water does it need? Any help on this subject would be much appreciated. Smiling

Hi Debbie. I'm afraid that unless given a lot of protection, it would not survive your conditions... Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla)
Even here in NE. Florida, I grow one in a container with success, but, it does require a bit of protection, in zone 9a.
Someone not far from me is growing one pretty successfully, at the southern exposure of the house, and planted fairly close to that house. I feel that they are quite lucky that they haven't lost it. I think the secret to their success is that they apparently have found a great micro-climate for it.
