Let share what we are doing with out broken pots/containers. It's a great way for all of us to get new ideas on what we can do with broken containers that we just can't part with.

I have a very large green bowl type container that was my mom's. It split into two pieces. I just make myself get rid of it. I will get a photo tomorrow. I would love to figure a way to re-purpose it. Maybe some of you have some creative ideas?

This is not my sort of thing, really, but I had the broken pot and had seen photos of plantings using them so I did one late last summer. At the least it gives me an appreciation for the effort that goes into creating and maintaining one. I had it out of the garage yesterday to give it some water and light. I water it using a mister attachment. I'm afraid my usual drenching method would wash out the soil and my other method of dunking the whole pot has to be done very carefully with the container on its side. That latter may get even harder as the plants grow. I tried to use plants that didn't need water too often. I think some sempervivums might work, but I didn't have any extra to use at the time. The squirrels have chewed on some of the sedum and the Portulacaria afra. Hopefully this spring they will begin to recover with some new growth. Two views.

No, the garage is not heated. I have a couple of electric heaters that I use when we have a really long spell of freezing hours. Also a work light I can set up. Generally, just closing it is enough to keep the temperature above freezing. Not much sunlight. The doors have high windows, but to let in much light they need to be open and then all the plants need to be where the sun shines in if they are to get much of it.

It is interesting to know that that will work in your growing zone, with some of the plants you have in the container. Great work.

I'd better retrieve my clay pot from the trash bin as a chunk from the side was broken off. I had it in the garden hoping to attract a toad. It's been there a long time and there are no residents. So, I think I'll get the snippers and take a few more bits off and create a cascading succulent miniature garden inside.
