My neighbor has a climbing grape plant all along my fence, I really do not like the plant but discovered it
serves a great purpose! It is highly attractive to Japanese Beetles and gets loaded with them, which keeps them off my roses, and makes it easy for me to tap the Beetles into a bucket of water, I can get rid of tons of them a day.
My neighbor does have tons of great plants and flower gardens, but no one has lived in the house the 15 months since we moved in here, the people passed away and the kids come over from time to time to do things there and do a great job tending to things, such a beautiful house and vacant. The woman who use to live there did a great work of art in her yard, just so pretty!

I did notice after I planted grape vines that the jap beetles went to town on them more than anything else they had ever gone to town on in years past. I spent a lot of time knocking and stomping, but I'll get a bucket this year. I can't say they really hurt the plants, though--grapes grow so fast--but once the jap beetles got here, they sought out other things...

The other thing they found unerringly was the bat-faced cuphea I grew from seed. It was very small and actually hidden among some other plants, and once they found it, it was doomed never to grow into anything to speak of. Good thing I didn't use it as a feature plant! You can barely even find it in this picture. None of the plants around it suffered any damage whatsoever.

Wow, what a picture grouping you have there, very nice! I did look for the bat-faced cuphea because I never heard of it!,
did not see it, or just did not know what it looked like maybe. I definitely suggest the bucket of water because you tap on the leaf and the beetles just fall right in really easy. I do this at the first sign of them trying to control populations early as possible.
I would never use the traps, they say it just draws more to your yard.

Yes, it's the chewed-up stem to the right of the picture, covered in lap beetles. They had it bad for that poor thing. But before I had the grapevines I didn't really see the beetles, even though I had roses. Putting soapy buckets on my list.
