Did you know that cornmeal is birth control for seeds? Sprinkle it on your garden and it will keep weed seeds from germinating and growing into plants. Of course, cornmeal will keep any seed from germinating, so don’t try this on your vegetable garden until your plants are established and you’ve finished planting seeds.Source: I found this on the internet and
thought it was interesting.

Welcome to the beekeeping forum Linda

That's OK posting that here. Bee keepers have weeds to deal with around their hives.

If anyone has tried this I'm I'm all ears!
To hear if it actually works

Corn gluten meal will control some weeds by limiting their root growth. It mostly works on crabgrass, purslane, lambsquarters, bentgrass and a few others.

Its not the same as corn meal though, CGM is a by product of the corm kernel milling process for corn starch and corn syrup. Its also used in animal feeds. It makes a good fertilizer too, because it's about 10%nitrogen.

Corn meal is just the whole ground up corn kernel. It probably could smother some weeds if applied heavily enough but it will also start to smell as it ferments in your garden. And technically its not organic because most corn is GMO
Life is a rush into the unknown. You can duck down and hope nothing hits you, or you can stand tall, show it your teeth and say "Dish it up, Baby, and don't skimp on the jalapeños."

I would imagine that spreading corn meal over the area even a light layer would attract deer. The deer around here love corn!
Does the corn gluten product have a scent to it that would attract critters? I have never used it before myself and have always used Preen. Preen does work, I notice if I wait too long to put it out. But I wonder how safe it is to use around my frogs and birds and what it does to earthworms.
