Is it really orange or just salmony? I've looked at the photos in the database and only one looks orange enough. Pics on the web are more of a color I'm seeking. Trying to find something different from the same old same old.

have you tried orange cosmos? I had some that blooms like crazy all summer, reseeds but is not what I consider invasive and is truly orange.

The data base shows "prince of orange" also but no pics for it

@Frillylily now you've gone and done it. I was searching for Prince of Orange and I found a PHLOX nursery in Vermont. I'm in trouble now. Actually I don't think I've grown cosmos of any kind. Might need to put that on my (garden) bucket list.

I saw Prince of Orange at a garden center, and it was coral-orange too. Orange Perfection starts out coral- orange but turns more pinky-coral. Here's a pic I took last summer, and it doesn't look orange at all. Next to other Phlox it appears more orange.

@Kabby what are you going for? Is it some kind of orange? Any particular height?

Jennifer well what I was going for was orange phlox lol. There are bucketloads of pinks and purples and whites, I wanted one that was really orange. I want one that is really red also, I bought Starfire but only time will tell if it's what I'm looking for. I think that may only exist in my mind a true red or true orange.
There are many daylilies with the color "blue" in the name but hybridizers just aren't there yet.

Maybe Prince of Orange conveys a screaming orange in our minds just as nepeta Walker's Low could confuse those who don't know it was named for the town where it was first growing and think it's a ground hugger. We need more truth in advertising regarding names/colors, etc. but that's just dreaming. If they named that phlox "Could be orange depending on what it's planted next to", I doubt it would get the good press.

One of the most breathtaking displays I've ever seen at any nursery was a wide row of very orange cosmos backed up by (probably) May Night salvia. That was a show stopper I still can recall from more than 25 years ago.

I used to have it not very orange at all.

My big gripe is with flat-out phony stock photos and I have no doubt that the company in charge of them knows customers want specific colors so they're just altered and not true at all but we, the consumers, fork over our money believing the altered color is real (as in the famous/infamous Dr. Blue's Daylilies). Often we may see that a plant is in shade or in very bright sun and we can investigate further but all too often it's a new introduction and none of us have photos to post to show reality.

I have a Sulpher colored orange cosmose. The color is so intense I can see it from far away.

Isn't it interesting how OP sometimes looks more orange than others. JoAnn, I love the way you've combined OP with other plants, the blues and purples are a great contrast!

I like O P because it is more orange red than lavender red. Neal !! You know oranges and lavenders are good friends.
