I've got a bunch of ideas for micro badges! Afterall, they personalize your profile and from my thread getting to know other members there is so many micro badges we need! Feel free to share your ideas too!

Getting your hands dirty
Tomato grower
Trellis gardening
Hybridizer
Earthworm lover
Apple grower or just Apples
Evergreens
African Violet
Keeps cows
Dairy farmer
Bird lover
Koi-goldfish lover
Insect lover
Trees
Tree hugger
Solar energy
Nutty for squirrels
Apartment gardening
Male & Female micro badges

And for a new idea for micro badges, badges to represent us better, which is hobbies we enjoy.
For example, these would be some micro badges I would add to represent my hobbies.

Bookworm
Computer nerd
Photographer
Gamer

Hope you all like these new badge ideas!

I'm up for most or all of these. My problem is that it takes time to make the badges and right now I have a lot of other irons in the fire. If you or anyone else wants to make some badges, feel free to create them and email them to me. They must be 32x32 in size, in PNG format with a transparent background. If you do make and send badges to me, please don't be offended if I don't use every one. I'm kinda picky about the badges I put up on the site. Smiling E-Mail the badges to [email protected].

I'm not sure how to make them or where to get images from. I don't mind waiting until you could do them if it it's easier that way?

Might be easier. Sometimes other members make them and send them to me. I can get to these myself eventually, too, just probably not this week.

Dave, can you recommend an app for making them? I'd like to give it a try. Is something like Paint satisfactory?

I make the badges using the gimp or inkscape, both of which are free graphics tools.

Thanks Dave, just downloaded Inkscape. Now to figure it out... too bad my daughter is away at college! If I can make a request for 1 micro badge, it would be for Solar Energy... the ultimate (and inevitable) source for ALL our energy needs. (What are we waiting for?)

Inkscape is a lot of fun but it has a steep learning curve. Beware!! But it's also very addicting once you start learning how it works because it makes drawing so intuitive and easy. Smiling

Would the Pollen Collector badge work for Hybridizer? http://garden.org/special/badg...

I'm not sure because what if it's collecting pure pollen to prevent hybridization? Like in corn for example. That's why I thought hybridizer should be its own badge.

Perhaps it could be renamed pollen collector/hybridizer? I don't do either so am not sure what the difference might be.

I tend to use the badges to suit my own taste - rather than using the standard 'water lily' badge (which I have none of), I use the 'dragonfly' badge to represent my native farm pond (dragonflies are a good indicator of a balanced pond ecosystem). On the other hand, I vacillated between the 'bear' or 'raccoon' badge to represent my support of native wildlife -- I'm terrified of bears (which do live in our woods) but raccoons are such a nuisance. I went with the raccoon. My preference might be a deer, but deer cause so much damage to gardens it would likely have a negative connotation.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

Either way. If we make a Hybridizer badge I know a lot of people would want it. But what would it look like?
